Staff at NOVA Transition

Job Coaches

NOVA Transition is facilitated by Job Coaches who support trainees to establish their interests, skills and goals. Job Coaches ensure trainee well-being during Transition, focus on individual goals, and through varied and experiential group and individual activities and projects, coaches the trainee to get ready for the workplace.

Work Placement Consultants

When trainees have completed preliminary work placements in a variety of taster industries, they begin to narrow down their choices by working with the Work Placement Consultants.  Work Placement Consultants seek relevant work experience with the potential of turning into a paid position.

NOVA DES Team: Employment Consultants

NOVA Employment is a Disability Employment Service that supports people with disability to find and keep award-wage jobs within the general community. Trainees work with the local NOVA Disability Employment staff when they are ready to move into paid employment.

NOVA Transition Management Team

NOVA Transition is supervised by a dedicated and experienced management team. Anne Goyer, General Manager, and Kristy Whitehead, Training & Development Manager have overall responsibility for the NOVA Transition team. They are assisted by NOVA Transition Manager Terry McAuliffe and NOVA Transition Coordinator Meg Elliott.

Anne Goyer, General Manager

Towards the end of 2005 I was given a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young people with disability – to build NOVA Transition.

Over the years, our two-year program has developed into a highly effective bridge from school to paid employment with hundreds of success stories to share. Regardless of the type or level of disability, NOVA Transition prepares trainees for the realities of the workplace. While I hope trainees have fun, my goal is to ensure they identify achievable career goals.

In 2015, every single one of our second year participants gained paid employment or went onto further training to support their identified vocational goals. I am proud to have been part of the team that delivered 100% outcomes!

We live in a time of great changes for people with disability.  The National Disability Insurance Scheme will offer people with disability more opportunities than ever before to participate in employment.  It won't be easy, because getting a job is hard for everyone.  But if you are willing to work hard and stick with it, we can make your goal of employment a reality.

Terry McAuliffe, NOVA Transition Manager

As manager of NOVA Transition, I ensure the smooth running of nearly 20 outlets. I'm so proud of our trainees' achievements. Each trainee grows throughout the two-year program, with many finding work at the end. Our team are producing wonderful results. In 2015, every single trainee found work or training of their choice! In 2016, we have 75 trainees graduating from NOVA Transition to Work from all over southern and south-western Sydney.

I am a proud of the variety and type of work experience placements our trainees undertake during the two-year program and the wonderful support given to them by their job coaches. Many of trainees gain paid employment from their work experience. In my previous role as work placement coordinator, I was very hands on in supporting my job coaches to make sure that the program was the best it could be for our trainees. I'm equally committed in my role as manager.

My background is in a variety of disability support roles, but my dream job was always to make a significant difference in the lives of people with a disability. While researching NOVA Employment, I discovered that the organisation and people within it really care about making a difference through getting meaningful employment for people with a disability.

I am a very proud NOVA employee and look forward to each and every challenge. Meg Elliott and Leisha Distefano are wonderful to work with and we make a very good team.

Megan Elliott, NOVA Transition Coordinator

I’m really passionate about training young people towards getting the job of their choice and have been a  Coordinator for NOVA Transition since 2010.

I’m a friendly, patient person who is willing to listen, and I always put the trainees and their job coaches first. We have some really creative job coaches who think very carefully about how to support young people to become ready for work.

When trainees have achieved their Certificate 1 Qualification, we celebrate trainees graduating and obtaining work. I spend the whole time in tears – but they’re very happy tears! There is nothing more rewarding than seeing trainees and their parents proud of their achievements – some didn’t think they would get through all they have to learn, let alone get an award-wage job.

Each of us has unique qualities. Nova Transition guides trainees to recognise, understand and strengthen their skills and qualities. Then we aim high! We all need to push ourselves towards our goals.
