Brendan - Great attitude and hard worker
Brendan was only part way through his second year at Bankstown NOVA Transition when he was offered a job at the Bankstown Sports Club. His employer, Mark, says that Brendan is a valuable team member who is very focused at work.
Mark says he is proud to have chosen NOVA Employment, and describes both Brendan and another NOVA Transition graduate as great assets to his team: they are both hardworking, take pride in their appearance – wearing their uniforms and name badges correctly – and are able to work around-the-clock shifts.
Giving an insight into Brendan’s work ethic, Mark describes how Brendan is always keen to get back to work after staff meetings: asking if they have finished so he can return to work and not waste time talking!
Brendan was offered ongoing work with the Bankstown Sports Club, following a four-week work placement there, where he impressed his manager with his enthusiasm, willingness to work hard, and ability to follow instructions and ask for help. Prior to that, Brendan had completed Barringtons courses in Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) and Responsible Conduct of Gambling (RCG) with other Transition trainees.
In the future, Brendan’s goal is to work in IT. At Transition, he would practise writing down formulas on the whiteboard and memorising computer codes. ‘He was my go-to trainee when anyone had a computer problem,’ says his Job Coach Paul, who has talked with Brendan about how he might move into IT in the future, once he has more experience working. Brendan can now add public speaking to his list of achievements, as he was recently a proud guest speaker at Bankstown NOVA’s P2E.
Brendan’s experience shows that some trainees are employable by the middle of their second year at Transition. If you have completed every module for Certificate 1 in Work Education and you’re willing to work hard, you may be too!
