Your Pathway to Employment

NOVA Transition supports young people with disability on their path to employment and independence. The journey from school to a job can feel scary. But you don’t have to do it alone. NOVA Transition is there for you every step of the way – and beyond. NOVA offers a tailored pathway to become ready for work and get a great job.

  • At school: NOVA STEP (School to Employment Pathways) introduces you to the world of work
  • After school: NOVA Transition prepares you for work (through NDIS School Leaver Employment Supports (SLES)
  • Ongoing support: NOVA Employment supports you to find and keep a job (through our Disability Employment Service (DES ESS).

Best of all, you don’t have to swap services as you become more job ready. NOVA integrates the services to ensure a smooth transition between school and employment.

How NOVA Transition Works

Transition is not an extension of school; it’s an adult environment with the same expectations as a workplace. Regular attendance is important. To prepare for the workforce, you will:

  • learn how to set realistic and achievable employment goals
  • explore job types and industries
  • write resumes and apply for work.

To help you establish your job choices, you’ll visit many different industries to learn about the sorts of work available to you. These might include:

 Together, we’ll practise:

  • using public transport
  • speaking with people
  • completing tasks on time
  • listening and understanding what’s been said.

As you become job-ready, you will also learn valuable life skills, such as how to:

  • prepare food
  • budget your money
  • organise your time.

And you’ll practise social skills. Making friends, getting along with others, and being part of a team are important in the workplace. NOVA Transition’s School Leaver Employment Supports (SLES) are tried and tested. Hundreds of young people with disability have graduated from NOVA Transition since we began in 2005. Have a look at our success stories to see how other young people have achieved their goals of finding and keeping a great job.
