Phillip - One of his employer’s best workers
The best aspects of working for Phillip are saving money and making good friends. He gets nervous when offered more hours as a coder at Australia Post because any change is hard for Phillip, but last Christmas he rose to the challenge by thinking, ‘It’s Christmas. People need their letters and presents on time.’
Phillip works 25 hours per week decoding what the machines can’t read on small and large letters, and large parcels. He checks post codes, addresses and names, and suggests his job would be much easier if people’s hand writing was neater!
According to his employer, Terry, Phillip is among the best coders working at Blacktown Australia Post. ‘He’s conscientious and asks questions to clarify his understanding. He has a better work ethic than 80% of my staff. I wish I had more staff like him.’
Terry says it’s easy to work with NOVA Employment. All communication is timely and effective. Whenever a shift change is necessary, staff at Blacktown NOVA help ease Phillip into it with encouragement, clear instructions and appropriate support.
For Phillip, NOVA Transition Blacktown was great because the staff and other trainees were very friendly. It helped him broaden his horizons and meet other people. He completed many hours of work experience, including in retail at Lincraft and in hospitality at a golf club and a bowling club. But his favourite work experience was at Blacktown Council in office administration. In this role he was able to apply his strong concentration skills, which led him to the paid work he has been doing since October 2014.
