Another happy parent
Imagine being the parent of three taxpayers.
Kathy Sammut never imagined this would be her life. She recalls that when her children, Anthony, Michelle and Matthew, finished school, she and her husband would say, ‘They’re going to be home all the time, and they’re not going to see the world out there’.
But all three have found work through NOVA Transition Liverpool.
‘There was a lot of encouragement from the job coaches at Liverpool, and it built up their confidence,’ she says. ‘The job coaches knew what they were capable of.’
Work experience was key. Kathy was delighted when Anthony and Michelle’s work experience placements became permanent positions. Meanwhile, NOVA found Matthew a cabinet-making apprenticeship, which he’s loving.
Anthony and Michelle catch buses to work, while Matthew drives. ‘They’ve become very independent,’ says Kathy. ‘I’ve got a little bit of time to myself now.
‘They’ve come a long way – a very long way,’ she reflects. ‘I didn’t expect this. They’re starting to see the world!’
