Casey- A whole career in front of him
Having started work in December 2015, Casey is one of eight staff at JAX Tyres in Sutherland. He works full time and is undertaking a traineeship in tyre fitting. His supervisor, Bill, says he’s taken to it very quickly: ‘In my thirty years as a tyre fitter I’ve trained a few guys and Casey has picked it up well. I can’t see any of his disabilities holding him back.’
In fact, Casey’s record for the number of tyres fitted in one day is nearly 80! Bill says Casey is adept at all aspects of the job – removing, balancing, fitting, etc. – so much so that he has high hopes for his trainee. ‘I’m determined to make him a tyre fitter inside 12 months because I know this is what’s going to feed him for the rest of his life. He’ll have a solid career.’
Since starting work at JAX, Bill has noticed Casey’s spirits lift. He’s matured a lot and has a sense of pride in his work. His common sense and work ethic is second to none. ‘With Casey, you ask him to do something and he’s does it straight away. I can confidently leave him to do his job properly. I can’t say that about every worker I get.’
Casey enjoys working with nice people and is saving for a Subaru. He says that the kind team at Engadine’s NOVA Transition helped him get this job by looking around for a role that suited him. The job coaches asked him what he liked and what he was interested in and found out that he has always wanted to work with cars, so this is his dream job!
